Heritage & Craftsmanship

Patronised in the 18th century by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Maheshwar on the banks of the Narmada River, Maheshwari weaves are distinguished by geometric borders inspired by Maheshwar Fort engravings. Known for their sheer lightness and subtle sheen, these sarees remain celebrated for effortless royal simplicity.

Care & Maintenance

Hand wash separately in cold water using mild liquid detergent. For the first wash, a gentle salt-water dip helps lock colors. Do not soak, wring, or scrub the zari border. Dry in shade to maintain luster. Iron while slightly damp using medium cotton heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this saree pure cotton or a silk blend?

This saree is woven with fine-count mercerised cotton yarns, offering superior breathability and sweat-absorption while retaining a subtle natural sheen.

Does the saree require starching?

No heavy starch is required. Mercerised cotton holds structured pleats naturally with simple steam ironing, keeping the drape soft against the body.

Is the border reversible?

Yes, an authentic hallmark of Maheshwari sarees is the reversible border (Bugdi), meaning both sides look equally neat and finished.
